“Connecting the informal dining table to the island is not only a striking feature of the design by Darren Genner but a clever way of maximising the space, allowing for unobstructed flow from the front of the house to the back courtyard. While the owner wanted a minimalist, contemporary look, they didn’t want a stark white kitchen, so we chose a balanced mix of timeless neutrals with the white, and light and dark shades of grey in the satin panels. This was paired with a timber veneer, which adds warmth and texture, along with the timber flooring.
These finishes are used throughout the home, so there’s great continuity in design. The smoked mirror above the top cupboards and the axolotyl patina finish on the table continue the grey story, while the stucco painted finish on the nearby wall adds interest and contrast.”
