Impala’s client was building a new house in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs. The client engaged Darren Genner from Minosa to design the joinery throughout the house including the kitchen, laundry, bathrooms and wardrobes. Impala Kitchens built and installed all the joinery on this project.
The client wanted a minimalist, contemporary look but did not want stark white joinery throughout the house so a colour palate of neutrals, shades of grey and timber veneer was selected. Various finishes with texture were also incorporated such as Axolotyl patina and a stucco painted wall finish.
Joinery features to note:
1. Wall panelling reflecting that used elsewhere in the home was used in the main living area to create a warm, textured feel in lieu of the usual gyprock painted finish.
2. The TV unit was to be contemporary and practical, complimenting the kitchen finishes. The same timber veneer was used in the wall panelling and the same shade of grey used in the kitchen was incorporated in the adjoining tall cabinets.
3. The bathrooms feature predominantly timber veneer joinery to add texture to the space.
4. The laundry uses the same finishes as the kitchen and features lots of bench space for folding clothes, an LED strip light underneath the overhead cabinets and a smoked mirror splashback for added luxury.
5. The main bedroom features custom built wardrobes which also double as a bed head complete with niches for storage in lieu of bedside tables, in keeping with the owner’s brief for minimalist design. Several of the wardrobe doors are mirrored, serving a dual purpose of wardrobe door and full height mirrors.
6. The sliding door into the ensuite has a textured Axolotyl finish to add warmth to the contemporary space.
