Luxury Laundry – More than “just a laundry”
A luxury home built in the 1980s needed a facelift to transform its dated fittings to suit it’s
grand scale.
The existing laundry:
• Was dark and unpleasant to work in with little storage.
• Was congested with blocked access to adjoining living and alfresco areas.
The client wanted:
• A ‘Parisienne Apartment’ style aesthetic to bring the right blend of tradition to suit a modern lifestyle and create a character-filled home.
• Luxurious but welcoming appeal.
• Large laundry with optimal storage and workspace for a busy family of five.
• Storage and functionality were of high priority.
• Open plan living.
• Easy to keep clean and tidy.
A whole-home renovation was undertaken with the designer creating a new layout that delivers an exceptional kitchen, laundry/mudroom and living area.
Walls were removed and the front of the house was completely redesigned. The reimagined footprint offers open plan living with luxurious fittings and features yet is robust enough to cater to a bustling domestic life and stretch effortlessly to large scale entertaining.
Laundry Design
Clutter is kept at bay with lockers to allow for school bags, hats, and shoe storage in drawers. There is cabinetry to store coats and sports equipment and ironing board and iron.
The laundry area has space for three large washing baskets for sorting and a hanging rail for drying shirts and hanging clothes after ironing. A shelf above completes the picture and adds extra storage as needed.
A butlers sink was chosen to suit the ‘Parisienne Apartment Style’ aesthetic and exudes a relaxed style that complements the wider aesthetic of the renovated home.
French oak timber floors add beauty and panelled walls suit the traditional style of the home.
Bespoke joinery and detailed skirting & cornice maintain the traditional look and a shaker door with an inner detailed moulding was chosen to suit the appropriate architectural style.
Polished nickel taps and handles complete the traditional styling of a very relaxed but luxurious family home.
Existing plumbing was positioned in the corner and couldn’t be moved so extra height was worked into the joinery to facilitate.
