Impala’s client was renovating a terrace in Sydney’s inner west. The client engaged architects Jackson Teece to design the renovations and joinery throughout the house including the kitchen, laundry, study, bathrooms and wardrobes. Impala Kitchens built and installed all the joinery on this project.
The kitchen was to be contemporary but also organic and tactile in finishes. The island was to be the centre-piece, looking like a custom-built table suitable for eating, serving and preparing food. The stone top and legs are a practical work top whilst the timber panels go straight to the floor with no kick board to minimise the “kitchen” look to the island. The island panels (custom made and painted) match those of the curved panelled wall (also by Impala) adjacent to the kitchen. The fridge was integrated into the wall panelling, making for a seamless finish, essentially concealing all large appliances. The cooktop joinery is a neutral backdrop to allow the island to stand out. Finishing touches such as the coloured stools, black tapware and pendant lights add a contemporary, quirky vibe.
