Our client purchased an older style home near the beaches in Sydney. The house was to undergo extensive renovation works to capture the home’s magnificent outlook and to suit her family composition and lifestyle. Functionality and aesthetic were key considerations in the kitchen design. Impala’s client had a background in interior design and our designer collaborated with the client and another design associate to bring together a practical kitchen layout using stunning finishes. Key to the kitchen aesthetic is the thick Calcutta marble bench top on the island unit. For pragmatic reasons, a different stone was used for the study area and either side of the cooktop. The open shelving on the island matches that of the long study area running underneath the window and allows the client to showcase objects collected over the years. The study area suits the small family as work or homework may be done here while other occupants are preparing a meal or snack. The computer and printer can be hidden in the cabinet to the left of the microwave. The kitchen cabinets appear to be floating with the use of a mirrored kickboard. A scullery was also built with sink, dishwasher and a second fridge where preparation tasks and dishwashing can be hidden from guests and affording additional storage.
