Impala’s client was building a new contemporary architect’s home on Sydney’s North Shore. He was looking to capture the outlook and provide an open plan family home. Impala was contracted to design and build the kitchen and adjacent display cabinet with mirrored wall. The brief was to keep the kitchen streamlined, provide seating and add some warm colour as a feature.
With this in mind, Impala designed a contemporary kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling, no handles and a shadowline around all the joinery. The island is a functional zone for food preparation and washing up. Seating is accommodated to the left of the kitchen, where guests or family members can sit whilst a meal is being prepared. The large walk in pantry is built in and can be accessed by sliding the chocolate door. The glass splashback adds colour, matching the hue of the pantry door. Lighting was also important to the client. Lights were positioned in a bulkhead in front of the cook to minimise overshadowing and afford appropriate task vision.
Impala also designed and installed the mirrored wall to the left of the kitchen and the floating display cabinet mounted on the mirror. The wall reflects the light and outlook from the home, which looks spectacular of an evening.
